Unusual for being a girl and her dog movie (it is usually a boy), this film also uses the trick of the puppy and adult version of the same dog being played by different breeds. A Great Dane puppy would get too big too fast to do the work so Black-Mouth Curs were employed until “Chestnut” gets older.
